I was a single mom with 5 kids, (ages 6-18) Needless to say I had no free time and no money. Gary Burke said I could earn an extra $200 a month by using the products and telling others about them. I already loved a few products (especially Basic-H) so… I gave it a try. I sat at kitchen tables, with other moms, giving facials and listening to their stories. Like I said not much has changed, they mostly told me they wanted healthy families and extra income. I never thought of “growing a business” with Shaklee, but the more products I used the more I believed. It was impossible not to tell others! I am grateful to Shaklee because:

I am 82 years young (and getting younger every day with Vivix!)
I credit Shaklee products for seeing me through several health challenges.
In 2007 my 1099 was $110,418.48
I work part time and earn a full time income.
I have seen the world with my family (for free) thanks to Shaklee incentive trips.
When I pursue other interests my monthly bonus check always keeps coming.

This has been a tremendous journey for my family and I. Lead in Children's vitamins, alert.

Healthy dose? Lab slams children's vitamin over lead contentSaturday, May 22, 2004
By Virginia Linn, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Tara Conroy of Oakmont is a careful shopper, always on the lookout for the most healthful and natural products for her four young children.

A year ago, she found a vitamin brand that sounded perfect: no gluten, no dairy, no chemicals, no artificial ingredients. And the best part was that the vitamins -- L'il Critters Gummy Vites by Northwest Natural Products Inc. of Vancouver, Wash. -- resembled candy Gummi Bears."They love them," she said.

But she was shaken when she learned the product, widely distributed in stores throughout the Pittsburgh area, had been flagged by an independent testing lab for lead contamination."I was so upset," Conroy said. "What is lead doing in these vitamins? These are for children."

Consumerlab.com says its testing found that each vitamin contained 1.25 micrograms of lead. And because the dosage called for two a day, the children may have been getting up to 2.5 micrograms of lead a day.A second lab, repeating the tests on blinded samples, confirmed the results, said Dr. Tod Cooperman, who founded ConsumerLab, based in White Plains, N.Y.

The analysis is part of a larger review of multivitamins, which are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, that ConsumerLab released yesterday. Gummy Vites was the only children's vitamin not approved by ConsumerLab of the four brands tested.

"In our view, any kid vitamin should have no more than half a microgram [of lead] per daily serving," Cooperman said. The lab also found that it was missing half the folic acid claimed on the label.

Northwest Natural Products officials disputes the ConsumerLab report and contends the Gummy Vites are well below all state and federal standards for lead limits.

Results of Northwest's own testing at an independent lab, Covance Laboratories Inc. of Vancouver, showed the vitamins contained less than 50 ppb of lead, which the lab said was equivalent to less than 0.25 micrograms of lead per two Gummy Vites. But even if levels were as high as detected by ConsumerLab, they would still be within federal limits, said Northwest President Kate Jones. FDA guidelines say that 6 micrograms per deciliter per day is acceptable for children under 6, and up to 75 mcg/dl is acceptable for older children and adults.

Jones emphasized that the vitamins are safe and have been certified by other quality control agencies.People are exposed to lead in the air, in dirt, around the home and in foods such as potatoes, legumes, dairy products, chocolate, meats and fish, said Bruce Good, chief of the Allegheny County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. Lead exposure is cumulative, so he suggested that if consumers have a choice of other vitamins that do not contain lead, they should use those.

A study published last year in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that exposure to levels of lead that had been regarded as safe actually caused dramatic drops in IQ scores of young children (read the abstract for the article). Dr. Herbert Needleman, of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, whose pioneering research made the first definitive link between lead and IQ, noted at the time that the findings suggested that there is no acceptable level of exposure to lead. After learning of the contamination through a magazine article last week, Conroy took her children to the pediatrician's office for blood tests to measure lead. The results showed lead exposure to be less than 3 micrograms per deciliter.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers lead levels "elevated" at 10 or more micrograms per deciliter. The New England Journal study showed that children with a lead level of 10 mcg/dl had IQ scores that were 7 points lower than those whose levels averaged 1 mcg/dl.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04143/320354.stm

Buyer Beware!!
More reason to trust Shaklee. As many as 176 separate tests for purity, freshness, potency, and safety are performed on the raw ingredients for a single product--including tests for pesticides, arsenic, lead and organic solvent residues. Shaklee has never had a product recalled in their 50 year history!

Check out the children's chewable product:
http://www.shaklee.net/thewellnesshut/product/20021

http://www.thewellnesshut.com/

Diabetes Risk Reduced with Carotenoids

Tuesday, May 23, 2006
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The risk of developing diabetes for people who don't smoke nonsmokers -- but not smokers -- is lower in those with higher levels of carotenoids in their blood, according to a new report.

Carotenoids -- plant-derived antioxidants found in vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes and spinach -- may reduce the risk of diabetes by cutting oxidative stress, the authors of the study explain in the American Journal of Epidemiology. Likewise, high levels of carotenoids may help reduce the oxidative stress caused by cigarette smoking.

Previous reports have linked smoking with low levels of carotenoids. Moreover, in other studies, high carotenoid levels have been tied to a reduced risk of diabetes. However, it was unclear if the rare smoker with a high carotenoid level still enjoyed a decreased risk of diabetes.

To investigate, Dr. David R. Jacobs, from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in Minneapolis, and colleagues analyzed data from 4493 subjects, between 18 and 30 years of age, enrolled in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study. The study focused on the 148 cases of diabetes that arose during follow-up from 1985 to 2001.

In nonsmokers, increasing carotenoid levels at the start of the study were associated with decreasing risk of developing diabetes. In smokers, however, this was not seen and high carotenoid levels were actually associated with a slight increase in risk.
The findings "suggest that smoking may nullify the protective effect (of high carotenoid levels), supporting the concept that antioxidant metabolism and the oxidative defense system behave differently in smokers than in nonsmokers," the authors conclude. Hormone replacement therapy is not a natural remedy. Read the dangers below:

Researchers have stopped the massive Women’s Health Initiative Prempro study, which involved more than 16,000 women across the country, after concluding that hormone-replacement therapy (HRT) raises the risk of strokes by 41 percent, heart attacks by 29 percent, and breast cancer by 26 percent. Dr. Claude L’Enfant, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, which sponsored the study, said the risks were “too high a price to pay” and urged women to “focus on well-proven treatments” instead, such as controlling blood cholesterol and keeping their weight down. While millions of women are now ripping up their prescriptions, others stopped taking Prempro and Wyeth’s estrogen drug Premarin years ago—not just for their health, but because they love animals.

Prempro Hurts Horses, Too
As unbelievable as it sounds, these drugs are made from the urine of pregnant horses. To collect the urine, farmers confine tens of thousands of mares to tiny stalls for months at a time, forcing them to wear cumbersome urine-collection bags that chafe their legs and prevent them from ever lying down comfortably.

Menopause Balance Complex
Three years ago I started waking up in the middle of the night sweating and soaking wet. The night sweats were getting worse and worse which caused me to be tired at work, almost to the point where I was falling asleep at my computer. After a couple of weeks of going through this, I went to my doctor and practically begged him to help me. I was still getting my period at the time and he tested me to see if I was starting to go through menopause. The tests came back negative.
He then tested my thyroid which also came back negative. I was at my wits end and beginning to feel very depressed and desperate. He gave me something to help me sleep through the night which gave me some relief but then during the day I started getting hot flashes. I looked like a tomato and felt like my body was on fire. It was about that time that my period stopped. I went back to the doctor and he re-ran tests on me again. This time I tested positive for menopause.
He prescribed Prempro which I was afraid to take because of the side effects. I took it anyway out of desperation for 2 months hoping it would help me. The Prempro made me feel bloated all the time and I also gained a considerable amount of weight. I went from a size 5 to a size 8 in just two months. I decided I would get off the Prempro and try an over the counter remedy. Unfortunately, everything I tried didn't work. I felt doomed.
I was telling a friend of mine about how miserable I was and she told me about a product that Shaklee carries called Menopause Balance Complex that is completely natural. She said she could purchase it and I could try it. I started taking the Menopause Balance Complex and noticed that after only one week of taking it, I started feeling better. The night sweats, hot flashes, and irritability reduced drastically. By the third week of taking Menopause Balance Complex I felt wonderful.
I've been taking it on a regular basis for about 6 months now and everyone who knows me sees the changes in me. I am more relaxed and am not constantly fanning myself till the hot flashes pass. I would highly recommend this all natural product to woman who are suffering from menopause.
Thank you Shaklee for making me feel alive again. I don't know what I would have done without your wonderful product. Starting now in grade school, with our children!

The United States is epidemic in over weight, which is leading to many of the problems in this article! Folks are not understanding the damage they are doing with all the wrong kinds of sweetners and carbohydrates.

What is diabetes?
There are 2 types of diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the body does not make a hormone called insulin. Insulin helps the body use glucose (a form of sugar) for energy. People with type 2 diabetes either do not have enough insulin or their cells ignore the insulin they have. Nearly 95% of people with diabetes have type 2 Diabetes.

Weight

Obesity is the single most important risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Between 80% and 90% of people with diabetes are overweight -- that means they weigh at least 20% more than the ideal body weight for their height and build. To figure out if you're overweight, check the chart at the end of this handout and talk to your doctor. A healthy, low-fat diet and regular exercise can help you lose weight gradually and keep it off.

Age

The risk for type 2 diabetes increases with age. Half of all people diagnosed with diabetes are over 55. Although you can't change your age, you can work on other risk factors if you are over 45 years of age.

Exercise

Exercising and maintaining a healthy weight can reduce your risk of diabetes. Any amount of activity is better than none, but try to exercise for 30 to 60 minutes most days of the week. If you haven't exercised for a while or you have health problems, talk with your doctor before starting an exercise program.

Diet

A diet high in fat, calories and cholesterol increases your risk of diabetes. In addition, a poor diet can lead to obesity (another risk factor for diabetes) and other health problems. A healthy diet is high in fiber and low in fat. Also, remember to watch your portion size -- how much you eat is just as important as what you eat.
Pay attention to ingredients in packaged foods. Avoid high fructose corn syrup. Try and use products that are unsweetened.

According to G. Reaven, M.D., in the book called
“Syndrome X, The Silent Killer”, published in 2000 …….

½ of ALL Heart Attacks are caused by Syndrome X

½ of ALL patients who have High Blood Pressure have Syndrome X

How to know if you have this problem?
Get blood work done and check the “Glucose Fasting Serum” … the reference range on the lab report usually shows between 3.3 to 6.1 mmol/L (or 60 to 108 mg/100 mL) for an adult.
If the result is HIGHER … you are at risk!!!!!!!
If the result is high … check other results on your blood work … often you will see:
High triglycerides
High cholesterol
High blood pressure

What is Syndrome X?

(other terms include …. Insulin Resistance, Glucose Intolerance, Hyperinsulinemia, Metabolic Syndrome, and Pre-diabetes … they all mean the same thing)
The food we eat is broken down through digestive processes and converted into “GLUCOSE” that travels in our blood stream

The hormone “INSULIN” (produced by the pancreas) transports glucose out of the blood stream into the cells where it is used for energy or stored as fat

When insulin does not work as well as it should at shuttling glucose into the cells, the individual has “SYNDROME X”. The pancreas then pumps out more insulin (as much as 2x the normal amount) to compensate for the insulin not working as well as it should.

The problem then becomes high levels of leftover insulin remaining in the blood stream after the extra load of insulin has forced the cell doors open to allow glucose to enter.

These high insulin levels trigger ….
High blood triglycerides
High cholesterol
High blood pressure
Low HDL cholesterol
Weight gain
An overworked pancreas
Now you are on the path of an insidious progression from pre-diabetes to HEART DISEASE, Type-2 adult-onset diabetes, and a long list of other diseases as well.

What to do
Immediately reach for Shaklee’s Glucose Regulation Complex. Take two each day (with your two largest meals). The seven ingredients make the cell’s receptor sites become VERY EFFICIENT and VERY RESPONSIVE TO INSULIN … therefore, you stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels, and reduce the risk of all the disorders mentioned above.
REDUCE simple or refined carbohydrates and INCREASE the fiber and protein in your diet.

http://www.shaklee.net/thewellnesshut/product/20649

http://www.thewellnesshut.com

email: info@thewellnesshut.com

Lipitor Dangers-WARNING

I encourage you to read the article at the link below, since most of you know people on Lipitor or similar drugs every day. It contains some excellent information on the necessary role cholesterol plays in your health and how getting enough vitamin C keeps your cholesterol recycling properly in your system.

You may not need to lower your cholesterol with medication.
You just need to keep it flowing properly and prevent it from backing up in your blood vessels by:
1) Getting enough vitamin C to keep it recycling, and
2) Neutralizing the homocycteine that causes the backed up cholesterol to glob up and begin forming plaques -- with adequate folic acid (B-Complex) and Vita-Lea (Shaklee’s multi vitamin), coenzyme Q10 and resveratrol (found in Shaklee CoQHeart).
3) If you want lower numbers, Shaklee also has Fiber Plan drink mix which will help lower cholesterol and Cholesterol Regulation Complex to keep it from going up.
4) All of these suggestions are natural without the harmful side effects listed below:

click here to learn what the drug companies are hiding:
http://www.thewellnesshut.com/health/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31&Itemid=2

info@thewellnesshut.com

Shaklee Soy Protein

Shaklee’s Soy Protein

Dr. Nasr has a B.S. in Agronomy; M.S. in Biochemistry of anti-oxidants and a PH.D. in Pharmacognosy (science of bio-active products). He received his M.D. from Rush Medical College in Chicago, followed by Internal Medicine and Cardiology fellowships from Chicago Medical School. He is a member of the American College of Nutraceuticals and the American College of Preventive Medicine and is Director of the Medical Care & Diagnostic Center, Lake Villa, IL.

Dr. Nasr uses Shaklee Soy exclusively because it has the very best and most complete soy protein and isoflavone content. You can feel so very good about Shaklee’s soy protein, and how we can help so many people who are looking for ways to improve their health.

1. Shaklee's Optiflora and Soy Protein increase the absorption of protein, decrease gas and discomfort and decrease cholesterol by 23%.

2. Sixty (60) studies have been conducted showing soy protein increases bone density more than just Calcium Magnesium does.

3. Two studies show that soy and vitamin E, together, decrease LDL (bad cholesterol) by 40% and that is 17% greater decrease than Zocor and Lipitor.

4. Four studies show that soy protein inhibits oxidation of LDL (bad cholesterol)
by 40%. When cholesterol oxidizes, it becomes “sticky” and builds up on the arterial walls, which leads to clogged arteries.

5. Soy prevents gall stones. It doesn’t dissolve them but it prevents them.

6. Soy prevents kidneys from damage. Lots of animal protein may be hard on the kidneys, but soy protein protects the kidneys.

7. French fries at major fast food establishments are crispy. That is a value for the store. Some french fries are coated with a protein substance that when combined with the sugar in the potato and then heated, gives them added crispness. Unfortunately that combination of sugar, protein and high heated fat produces a carcinogen. Probably a good idea to avoid all French fries.

8. Shaklee’s protein includes valuable protein and isoflavones that are not present in other soy proteins produced with heat or chemicals. Shaklee’s low heat - water wash process keeps the isoflavones in the protein.
Isoflavones are natural cancer fighting ingredients that occur naturally in soy.

9. Soy’s protein and Isoflavones inhibit the mutated cell’s ability to make an enzyme that would cause the cell to continue reproducing and form a tumor.

10. Soy inhibits the cancer cell from making blood vessels that invade arteries and zap nutrients (this process is called angiogenesis).

11. Soy increases the killing effect of the white blood cells (phagocytosis).

12. Soy’s amino acid Lysine when combined with Vitamin C decreases colon Cancer by 90%.

13. The flavanoids (like those in Shaklee’s Flavomax) when combined with Soy Protein are synergistic (they work even better together)and decrease breast cancer 10 fold.

14. Beta carotene (like those in Shaklee’s CarotoMax) when combined with soy protein and Calcium with Vitamin D are 10 times as effective at preventing cancer cells from getting an addition blood supply.

15. Women in the Orient get about 80mg of Isoflavones a day….women in US and Europe get about 1.0 mg. That’s an 80% negative difference for US and Europe.

16. Soy protein helps the differentiated cell (bad cell) convert back to a normal cell.

Dr. Nasr also listed the several forms of protein and the length of their chain of Amino Acids. The shorter the chain, the more quickly the Amino Acids can be absorbed and utilized.
1. Soy has the shortest chain and takes less than an hour.
2. Fish is next.
3. Chicken takes about 4 hours.
4. Beef takes about 5 hours.
5. Pork takes about 6-8 hours to digest.

visit us: http://www.thewellnesshut.com
email us: information@thewellnesshut.com

Heart Health & Omegia-3 Fish Oil

Has Your Doctor Told You How To Protect Your Heart?
Look How Long They Have Know These Facts...

The following is from the American Heart Association's Website:

"In 1996 the American Heart Association released its Science Advisory, “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Lipids and Coronary Heart Disease.” Since then important new findings have been reported about the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids on cardiovascular disease. These include evidence from randomized, controlled clinical trials. New information has emerged about how omega-3 fatty acids affect heart function (including antiarrhythmic effects), hemodynamics (cardiac mechanics) and arterial endothelial function. These findings are outlined in our November 2002 Scientific Statement, “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease.”
The ways that omega-3 fatty acids reduce CVD risk are still being studied. However, research has shown that they
· decrease risk of arrhythmias, which can lead to sudden cardiac death
· decrease triglyceride levels
· decrease growth rate of atherosclerotic plaque
· lower blood pressure (slightly)

Epidemiological and observational studies shown below is a good guide to use for consuming omega-3 fatty acids.

Summary of Recommendations for Omega-3 Fatty Acid Intake:

Patients without documented coronary heart disease (CHD)eat a variety of (preferably fatty) fish at least twice a week. Include oils and foods rich in alpha-linolenic acid (flaxseed, canola and soybean oils; flaxseed and walnuts).

Patients with documented CHD consume about 1 g of EPA+DHA per day, preferably from fatty fish. EPA+DHA supplements could be considered in consultation with the physician.

Patients who need to lower triglycerides 2 to 4 grams of EPA+DHA per day provided as capsules under a physician’s care.

Patients taking more than 3 grams of omega-3 fatty acids from supplements should do so only under a physician’s care. High intakes could cause excessive bleeding in some people."

Dr. Jamie McManus, Chairman of Shaklee Medical affairs recommends the following three step Core Foundation…
1. EPA asked NAS to characterize the state of the science on health impacts and prevention strategies, and to provide recommendations on needed research.

In response to this request, the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine has issued a report, Clearing the Air: Asthma and Indoor Air Exposures, on the role of indoor environmental pollutants in the development and exacerbation of asthma. The report affirms the Administrator's asthma initiative to educate the public about the ways they can help control asthma by managing indoor air quality.

The report concludes that exposure to indoor pollutants is an important contributor to the asthma problem in this nation. Asthma sufferers should consult with their doctor about reducing their exposure to secondhand smoke, dust mites, pet dander, molds, and cockroaches.

Since Americans spend up to 90% of their time indoors, exposure to indoor allergens and irritants may play a significant role in triggering asthma episodes.

Check out Shaklee's AirSource 3000. The fact of the matter is that these topics are complicated. Nonetheless, I have sent this to you in a word document rather than a pdf so you can cut and paste the information that you select for your convenience. As you can see, I’ve tried a “good news/bad news” approach; though the bad news really isn’t bad…it’s simply accurate and truthful.

“Natural”
The “bad” news: “Natural” has no legal definition, so the term can be used to convey a general sense of wholesomeness without specific meaning.

The good news: By all means, use the term “natural” when describing Shaklee products, because they are as natural as possible. We challenge any other manufacturer of competitive products to prove they are more natural and effective than Shaklee products.

“Organic”
The “bad” news: “Organic,” while worthwhile, does not ensure purity or potency, and when it comes to using the term on dietary supplement labels, the legal standard prevents manufacturers from using the term except under very limited circumstances. Those circumstances preclude using the term for dietary supplements, for the most part, since herbal ingredients (often grown in the wild), and imported ingredients, while pure, do not qualify for organic designation.

The good news: While our raw materials may include organic ingredients, Shaklee quality assurance and ingredient specifications ensure a standard that is often higher than organic. Shaklee tests raw materials that go into our products for contaminants with the requirement that they be present below the legal standard or not detectable at all.

“Chemical-free”
The “bad” news: Strictly speaking, everything is made of chemicals. What consumers really need to consider is the presence of harmful or harsh chemical ingredients.

The good news: No Shaklee product—dietary supplement, personal care product, household product—contains harsh or harmful chemicals in their formulations or ingredients of any kind that are shown to be harmful to human health.

“Preservative-free”
The “bad” news: In order for some products to have a useful shelf life, some must contain preservatives of some sort, especially if they contain lots of natural ingredients. Just as fresh fruits and vegetables deteriorate very quickly, unless something is done to preserve them, consumer products need protection, too. This is one reason for expiration and “use by” dates.

The good news: No Shaklee dietary supplement contains artificial preservatives (or colors, flavors, or sweeteners). They are formulated in such a way that nutritive ingredients, such as vitamin C, “self-preserve” the supplement over its usable shelf life. Personal care products and cosmetics often require mild preservatives to prevent microbial infestation and cross contamination after opening. They use the word INEVITABLE. Whoa!

They tell us one way to be prepared for a pandemic like the
bird flu is to have on hand, doses of Tamiflu ...
the only known antidote to the bird flu.
One problem ... even it - is not 100% effective.

Another problem ... estimates are that only 4.3 million
will have it available to them.

Will you and the members of your family be among the
fortunate few should a pandemic strike?

If not, here's another option that could help save your life.
Here's what you should do ...

Develop the strongest possible immune system starting right now!

Why?
